New House in Truro
The owners knew from the outset that their second home would be used all year and needed to be inexpensive to build, heat and maintain. The solution to this multifaceted challenge was a pair of linked structures based on traditional building methods. The main house contains a living room, dining room, kitchen, a bedroom for the owners and a studio loft.
A two-bedroom, one bath, guest cottage is separated from the main house by a large outdoor deck which functions as a second living/dining room in warm weather. The unheated cottage was less expensive to build than the main house and provides privacy for guests and owners alike. By dividing the project into two, the complex is smaller in scale than a year-round house and has an informality and playfulness appropriate to a seasonal home
