MEITEC Corporation, a Japanese engineering firm, purchased a three-story home to create a center for academics and a gathering place for employees working in the Boston area.
While renovating the house to accommodate these needs, Black River Architects integrated elements of traditional Japanese architecture and western style modernization. Two Japanese rooms, one a formal tearoom, overlook the Japanese garden at the rear of the house, and Japanese motifs are present throughout. The result is a combination of cultures in which the aesthetic power of each is strengthened by its juxtaposition with the other.
Black River Architects coordinated all phases of the design and construction work with MEITEC's project manager in Tokyo.
