Deer Valley YMCA Camp
Deer Valley, Pennsylvania
The Deer Valley community consists of a devoted group of families who return to the same cabin, for the same week in the summer, year after year. The 60-year old cabins embodied the camp’s rustic and unpretentious ethos. But the cabins were deteriorating and the aging communal bathhouses risked becoming functional and marketing liabilities in the future.
Black River Architects designed a new cabin that retains the rustic qualities of the old cabins – wood interiors, vaulted ceilings and large windows facing the lake – and added two full bathrooms. The new cabin, which replaced the 11 most dilapidated original cabins, contain three sleeping rooms that can be configured for two families of up to six or as a single cabin for 10, accommodating larger families and more campers than before.
