Art Gallery of Alberta Store
Edmonton, Alberta

The Art Gallery of Alberta, with a predominantly 20th century collection, is moving into a dramatic titanium and zinc-clad new home. The museum store, designed by Black River Architects, is located next to the entrance lobby and grand stair and is visible through a large window from the street.

The backbone of the store design is a curving display wall of softly glowing translucent panels. It begins its long arc as a backdrop to the window displays and evolves into a double-sided retail fixture as it swings through the middle of the store. The wall, in scale with other building elements, provides additional wall space for retail displays, greatly increasing potential store revenue. The store materials are similar to those used throughout the building to create a cohesive architectural statement.
