New House
Windsor, Massachusetts

The client wanted a home that balanced traditional forms with an urban, loft-like interior. The result is a straightforward (that is, inexpensive to build) traditional saltbox form, updated with a contemporary exterior color palette and siding pattern. The 1,400 square foot open floor plan includes a first floor bedroom and a loft that can be subdivided into two additional bedrooms.

The use of south-facing windows for passive solar gain, limited north facing windows, cellulose insulation, and tight construction reduced annual heating costs to less than $1,000. Sustainable materials and those that were free of toxic or allergenic substances were used throughout including formaldehyde-free insulation, bamboo flooring, non-VOC paints, recycled insulation, concrete countertops, and concrete siding.
