Russell Field Athletic Facility

The City of Cambridge retained Brown Richardson and Rowe, Landscape Architects and Black River Architects to investigate strategies for more effectively organizing the current activities and adding a tot lot and field house to Russell Field. The design of the new Field House, located at the center of the park, was inspired by the idea of making it the ceremonial entrance to the high school football field and includes locker rooms, public bathrooms, concession stand and an weight room for high school athletes.

In line with Cambridge’s “green” mandate, the Field House is being submitted to the United States Green Building Council and is expected to be LEED certified. “Green” materials and systems include recycled materials, high levels of insulation, a high efficiency heating system, and materials with low embedded energy costs.
